The Essence of Yoga: The Four Yogic Paths Retreat begins with reading of the Bhagavad Gita

Day 30 – 11 February 2025

On the eve of Magh Purnima (full moon), marking the end of Kalpavas, Yogadham resonated with the vibrant energies of seekers drawn to the shores of Ganga for the approaching Shahi Snan. As the regular participants continued to learn the Dakshinamurty Stotram, we welcomed the new participants of our next retreat – The Essence of Yoga: The Four Yogic Paths – over the next 4 days, setting off on a journey to explore Karma, Bhakti, Jnana, and Raja Yoga.

In the introductory session, the participants learned to chant shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita verses that encapsulate the essence of these paths. Shloka 50 from Chapter 2 was particularly helpful:

बुद्धि-युक्तो जहातीह उभे सुकृत-दुष्कृते |

तस्माद् योगाय युज्यस्व योगः कर्मसु कौशलम् ||

Translated, this shloka teaches that one who practices the science of work without attachment can transcend the dualities of good and bad reactions and is urged to strive for Yoga, which is the art of working skillfully.
