Day 37 – 18 February 2025
On the third day of the Yoga Vashishta, Sri M touched on the kernel of the text, explaining in very simple terms the difference between perception and the absolute reality by using examples from daily existence and going to the Upanishads for a fable to illustrate this truth.
Taking the example of a cube he dismissed all sense perception, including sight, sound, touch, taste and smell, illustrating how they were all relative to the human instruments of perception. “The difference is as great between the optics seeing and the objects seen” he said quoting British poet, Alexander Pope.
He then moved on to the “Keno Upanishad” and the story where inflated with ego, the lords of Fire (Agni), Vayu (Air) and the Lord of Lords, Indra who governs the senses, were tested by the Supreme Being. All of them failed to recognise Him when he appeared in the guise of a Yaksha, till the daughter of the Himalayas, Parvathy, revealed His true identity. He explained that it was in fact the ego that saw itself as the doer of everything that was the problem in cognising the Supreme Being, the all pervading consciousness on which the whole world appearance played out, that was also the source from which all existence emerged and dissolved into.
In the afternoon, Annadaanam Seva for 400 plus sadhus and pilgrims was also presided over by Sri M and the evening Dhuni puja amidst divine chanting and bhajans signalled the end of another joyous day at the Yogadham Akhada.
