Day 34 – 15 February 2025
As dawn broke on 15 February, the banks of the Ganga came alive with the sound of chanting, as participants gathered to start the day with yoga and meditation after Sri M performed the morning aarti at Sri Guru Babaji’s shrine, bringing everyone together in a quiet moment of reflection.
Later in the morning, he shared the legendary story of the Celestial Ganga’s descent to Earth, a tale rooted in King Bhagiratha’s tapas. King Sagar undertook the Ashwamedha Yajna, to declare his sovereignty over the surrounding regions. When the horse mysteriously disappeared, having been tied by Lord Indra at the hermitage of Kapila Muni. King Sagar’s 10,000 sons searched far and wide for the horse and found their way into Kapila Muni’s ashram, only to be burned to ashes by the sage’s gaze. Centuries later, King Sagar’s great-grandson, Bhagiratha performed severe penances to please the Goddess Ganga, convincing her to descend to Earth and wash over the ashes of his ancestors, thus granting them salvation. When the descent of Ganga, however, threatened to inundate the world, Bhagiratha sought the help of Lord Shiva, who directed her flow through his matted locks to break her fall, releasing her gently into the Himalayas.
The day ended with Sri M conducting the Dhuni Puja. Accompanied by the Mantra Pushpams, a group that came together during the retreats at Yogadham to learn chanting, their voices filled the evening air, drawing the day’s experiences to a peaceful close.
