Bharat Yogavidya Kendra alumni bond over yoga and visits to renowned akhadas

Day 7 – 19 January 2025

The day began with mantra chanting, filling the air with the sounds of Om Namah Shivaya, Maha Mrityunjaya, and Sri Ram Jai Ram. Sri M performed the aarti at Sri Guru Babaji’s shrine, followed by a session of silent meditation.

A diverse group of 90 Bharat Yogavidya Kendra (BYK) Alumni from various online and Teacher Training Course (TTC) batches gathered for the morning Asanas and Pranayamas session, braving the freezing temperature of 10°C as they practised together.

After breakfast, Kreeda Yoga brought a burst of energy as participants engaged in fun games, which warmed up their bodies and created a fun environment to get to know each other.  This was followed by a one-hour yoga session focused on strengthening the spine, accompanied by instructions for yoga teachers to incorporate into their classes.

In the evening, the team organized a memorable visit to the akhadas in Sector 20. An auto ride over bridges and makeshift roads led to Avahan Akhada, where participants met the Mahant of the Akhada and explored tents housing Naga sadhus and babas dedicated to their penance. The group witnessed remarkable practices—some adorned with kilos of rudraksha in their hair, others standing in penance for 12 years and holding up their hand for years.

The walk continued through Mai Vada, where most participants received blessings from Sanyasinis and concluded at the Juna Akhada, leaving everyone with profound impressions of devotion and discipline. The day concluded with everyone returning to Yogadham just in time for dinner.
